I am a Professor of Politics and Co-Director of the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Bath, UK.

My first academic book, The Political Class: Why It Matters Who Our Politicians Are, was published in April 2018 by Oxford University Press. You can read about it here. My second academic book, How to Think About Politics: A Guide in Five Parts, was published in paperback and ebook by Oxford University Press in February (US) and March (UK) 2025. I have been an ESRC Future Research Leaders grant holder (2016-18), and I took up a Visiting Fellowship at the Library of Congress, Washington D.C. through the AHRC International Placement Scheme in 2016/7.
